Food for Fines

National Day of Service

Food for Fines at the Urbandale Public Library

Monday, January 16, 2017

We are once again holding a Food for Fines event on Monday, January 16th in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Food for Fines is an easy way for you to make MLK Day a National Day of Service by donating non-perishable food items or personal care products in lieu of cash for your library fines. All donated Food for Fines items will be sent to the Urbandale Food Pantry.

  • 1 donated personal care product will erase up to $1.00 of fines per library account.
  • 1 can/box of food will erase up to $0.50 of fines per library account.

There is no limit on the number of items you can apply toward your fines. Please see the official Food for Fines rules listed below for more details.

*Items most needed are: new personal care items (unopened shampoo/conditioner, bars of soap, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, TP, laundry soap, sanitary products, large-size diapers), new winter scarves, hats, baby blankets (esp. handmade!), and monetary gifts (the Pantry can buy items at a discount!)>

Want to do more? Stop in the library meeting rooms anytime between 9am and 2pm for the Imagine Enough for Everyone event. They’ll be collecting additional donations for the Urbandale Food Pantry, knitting, and coloring. Please visit their website for more information.

The library will also have activities for children in the cafe.
